Science Bits successfully implements an educational model that promotes inductive, competency-based, and meaningful learning through authentic situations that connect with students’ everyday experiences and spark their interest in learning. Our students particularly appreciate the introductory video that launches each unit, along with the quality of the explanations and the outstanding visual resources throughout Science Bits.

The instructional videos deserve special mention because they are specifically designed to address common misconceptions and guide students, through experimentation, toward a genuine understanding of the scientific principles being explored. Students also value the bilingual format, the short, focused, self-correcting activities that help them monitor their own learning, and the dynamic concept map, which serves equally well to introduce a topic or to review and organize ideas before assessment.

The assessment activities are fully aligned with a competency-based approach to learning and go well beyond the traditional recall-based assessments students are accustomed to. Even so, we believe they should be complemented by more knowledge-based tests that ensure students acquire the essential scientific vocabulary and core concepts of the subject.

Science Bits is, therefore, an outstanding educational program for implementing the bimodal curriculum on which our instructional model is based.
